IMAGO MUNDI

Counterfeit, 2015, oil on canvas. 10 x 12 cm

This little painting was done specifically for the project IMAGO MUNDI - Luciano Benetton Collection, Looking Down Under: Australian Contemporary Art.

Supported by the Benetton Foundation, the project aims to collect thousands of small artworks from around the world. Each participating artist produces a painting on a 10x12 cm canvas and has their artwork and biography profiled in a publication.

Another facet of the project is that it tours extensively and showcases the images on a website. It's worth quoting the philosophy behind the collection - ' Its purpose is to catalogue world creativity in a way that is free from the usual museum processes and the art market '

What a great idea of Luciano Benetton, a true patron of the arts.

Studio Renovations

I haven't been in my Abbotsford studio too much lately because, as you can see from the following images, I've been renovating the space. I decided to insulate the adjoining neighbour's wall and add another wall and door which will enclose the room. Up until now, my studio has been an open area made private by sliding curtains across, but now I feel like a change. This is a work in progress, but soon I hope, I'll have a finished studio to show you.

The main wall has resilient mounts with furring channels as well as acoustic insulation and barrier board. The other wall will be a stud and plaster wall with acoustic insulation. All this work is so time consuming especially as I've had to spend hours on the internet researching types of acoustic insulation and how to install it. Even collecting the various materials became a days work as it was ordered from NSW and the pick up venues in Victoria were Seaford, Preston and Croydon - you couldn't get a more spread out delivery setup!
